Hello! My name is Megan Dean. This is my eighth year teaching at Holmes Elementary. I taught 2nd Grade for one year, 1st Grade for four years and this is my third year teaching Kindergarten.
I want each child that walks into my classroom to enjoy coming to school each day. I want children to build a solid academic and social foundation to build upon for years to come. I believe that each child is a reader, even if they are not reading the words on the page. Readers also read books by looking at the pictures and telling a story that goes along with the pictures.
The Kindergarten students in my classroom will develop their super hero reading powers! Each child will learn powers that will help them decode and retell books that read and reread. Students not only become readers, they become avid readers that will develop a love of reading that will last a lifetime.
In my classroom, students sit at tables instead of desks to help facilitate teamwork and problem solving skills. Students are given many opportunities to work with partners to help guide their learning.
I have a Bachelor's degree from Grand Valley State University, where I studied Special Education and Elementary Education. I also have my Master's Degree from Grand Valley State University in Learning Disabilities. Although I attended GVSU, I am a HUGE Michigan State fan! Go Green!
My husband and I live just outside of Spring Lake with our daughter, Addison, our son, Carter and our playful dog, Ziggy. We adopted Ziggy this spring. Addison is four years old. Carter is two years old. I love spending time reading, swimming laughing and playing with my kids. Our family enjoys spending time outside and walking around the neighborhood. Outside of school I enjoy photography, playing softball and spending time with my family.
